Daily News : Stormy weather on day 3 of the Dutch Open

The third day of the Dutch Open was sailed under difficult circumstances. The day started with 4 Bft, but soon the wind increased till 6 during rain up to7 and 8 bft. The strong wind made a lot of sailors stop their races. The RC had also a heavy task, they had to decide about the safety of the sailors. During the day the races were cancelled, an excellent decision of both committees. The Splash and Flash sailed two races by then and the Optimist was cancelled in the second race. About two a clock the first sailors returned to the harbour. The strong wind blow a few of them upon the stones in the harbour. Therefore there was a lot of damage on the ships.
Today is the final day. The Optimist fleet is divided in Gold, Silver, Bronze and Emerald. The Splash fleet in Gold, Silver and Bronze. The Flash complete their series. At the end of the day the champions will be known.

...   today only two races are scheduled.
...   Annegreet Postma stepped into an Optimist again, but unfortunately she had to swim. Annegreet, you can do it.
...   on board of a yacht, who picked up the retired sailors by the Splash, Jerry van Bekkum worked very hard. In behalf of the captain: Thank you Jerry! In spite of bad luck, exhaustion, and strained muscles and broken material it was very cosy aboard.

Report of a sailor from day two of the Dutch Open:
What a day today, good wind, nice waves and shiny weather. This morning all sailors prepared their boats. About 9. 30 the first were allowed on the water. Don’t forget the talley’s was said. The first start was for the Flash with a hard wind at that time. Then the Splash started. Boats turned over and returned to the harbour. We sailed tree races. It’s a pity for the retired sailors that this beautiful day had to end in this way. It was a lovely day and I look forward to tomorrow.
