Daily News : First day of the Open Dutch Championship

At 12 hours after any delay the start signal was given for the Open Dutch Championship Optimist, Splash and Flash. Over 300 Optimist sailors and over 200 Splash and Flash sailors got on the water. The mayor of Nijefurd, Mr. Boekhoven, wished all sailors a lot of success.

Wednesday evening the measurement started for the competitors. Some of them were affraid that they wouldn’t be in time at the measurement. There was a long row of waiting boats, but everything got in order. However, some boats were to light and some too heavy. Some sailors and parents panicked in spite of the warnings some forgot their sails, boom or insurance papers. Lucky that on the campsite is a fax machine.

With a wind that became stronger during the day the sailors started their races. A lot of wind shifts, short waves became their enemy’s. During the day circumstances became better.

Tally’s:
Some of the Splash and Flash sailors forget their tally’s. Don’t forget, because it’s a reason for a penalty!

Activity’s ashore on Friday:
At 10 a clock is there a big party for the brothers and sisters of the sailors in the big tent. They can build an Optimist, make a board with knots or decorate a piece of cake. If you want to join don’t hesitate and registrate at the information centre. Their will be a drink and something to eat.
At 17.00 hours there are sporting games at the playground and an introduction of future classes to the sailors.
In the evening there is a great bingo with large prices, organized by Peter Lammers, the manager of the paviljoen, not to confuse with the chef of the kitchen “little Peter”.
